LEXINGTON -- Jas. McClure, one of the pioneers of Richland County, died at his residence west of this place on Tuesday evening.  He was out looking at the eclipse on Monday and the same evening had a stroke of paralysis and died Tuesday evening.  

Mr. McClure was born in Rockland County, Virginia, in 1804, came to Richland County in 1809 with his father and settled near Bellville.  His father's family was the second to settle in the county.  In conversation with Mr. McClure a few days before his death, he said he could remember but one winter that was as long and cold as this and that was in 1831-32.
